The Lync Director Part I

in older versions of OCS the dircetor was installed like a Front End Server, but do not homed users and you need a dedicated SQL Server for the backend database. The Steps to make the Server to a Director are documentated on TechNet http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd425352(office.13).aspx looks like a litle bit tricky.. .:-)

Now in the Lync Server 2010 the Director is a dedicated role that you can deploy more easily.

Why to use a Director in your deployment?
Features:
    • Authentication moves from the Front-End to the Director, more security for remote user
    • Authentication view for external
    • Can home the Webservices for device update services and the client version filter thats checks the version of the users client and handle the sign-in web tickets
    • recieves the home front-end pool to the client in multi pool deployments
Internal Sign-In for User homed on Pool 1
